1.2. Dignity and the Stewardship of Creation
God created man in his own image; in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them: “Be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 1:27–28).
Within Creation, humanity represents a particular good; its dignity must endure over time, beyond the life of the individual, through procreation.
The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it. (Genesis 2:15)
Every person is neither a mere inhabitant nor a despot of the world, but bears the dual responsibility to keep and till it, drawing sustenance from it while performing good works.
